How to Volunteer

Because The Houston Hoedown is not hosted by a specific club, individual volunteers are vital to its success.

As you can imagine, helping with decorations and the dance floors, monitoring sound equipment, serving as door keeper, and assisting at the registration table are just a few of the many tasks that require lots of help to keep the hoedown running smoothly.
If you are interested in volunteering during The Houston Hoedown, please contact

Our Volunteer Policy

  • Most volunteer positions are filled by persons who are pre-registered for the hoedown.
  • All positions are 100% voluntary.
  • No volunteer (officer, director, coordinator, supervisor, assistant, or any other) gets paid or compensated in any way. We do this for free because we like it!
  • All volunteers pay full registration, pay full price for t-shirts, dangles, and other hoedown-related items for sale, and pay for their own rooms at the negotiated hoedown rate--just like all other attendees.
  • Some positions require a one or two-day early arrival and/or a one or two-day extended stay at the volunteer's expense.
  • Exceptions:

» Persons who live locally and do not plan to register for the entire hoedown may be granted entrance to an event (such as an evening dance or an afternoon of workshops) in return for a designated number of hours of volunteering. Please contact Lori for details.

» In keeping with our policy that "no one will ever be turned away for lack of funds", individuals contacting us discreetly may be asked to volunteer as a way of paying for all or part of their registration fee. In this case, please contact Jim Chakeres.
